WordPress 2.7 release

WordPress announced today that 2.7 is out of public beta and now the official stable version of WordPress. You can download it here. I’ve been playing around with the beta version of WordPress for a couple of months now, and if you’ve watched any of my WP tutorial screencasts, you’ll have had a sneak peek at the 2.7 admin interface. How to change your URL structure in WordPress for SEO

Again, had a request for a ‘how to’ on using the WordPress ‘settings’ interface to change the Permalink structure of blog posts and pages. Its a bit trickier than previous subjects (and hence the video runs to nearly 9 minutes, as there’s lots of different eventualities to consider) but again, once you’ve done it and gotten over the fear of the .htaccess file, you’ll be chopping and changing it like there’s no tomorrow. How to update your old version of WordPress for your gite

Someone in a forum mentioned they’d like to know how to upgrade WordPress, and it just so happens I’m due an upgrade, so here’s a screencast of the process

It’s always worth keeping up to date with the latest versions of WordPress, they regularly fix security holes and some of the updates are critical. If you’re running WordPress, you should check in with WordPress.org regularly to ensure you’re not missing any updates, although there’s usually an alert within the admin area to inform you that it’s time to upgrade.

If you like the free videos, give something back… add me to your links in your blogroll!

How to manually install wordpress on your web server

Been asked a few questions by email and in forums recently about how to install WordPress on your own server. If you have a server with permissions to create databases and which runs php, then you can install WordPress very easily.

I’ve put together this 6 minute demo video (using Camtasia Studio for screen recording) which guides you through the process (note that i’ve now deleted the install so there’s no point in trying to visit it on the giteguru.com domain).
