I’m hearing a lot of customers in the Holiday Rental market talking about a service being offered by companies in the UK whereby they ‘guarantee’ that your site will be found in Google against 2 specific search terms relevant to your business for just £99 per month.
In my opinion, this is a rip off. The company is taking a great (Pay Per Click) product, Google Adwords, and turning it into a crap one (Pay Irrespective of Clicks). So if the search terms you ‘choose’ get no clicks at all, the company involved pockets the whole £99. They’re preying on people’s fear of technology, and must be making huge profits in doing so.
More worryingly, a customer told me today that they’d been mis-sold on the phone, and that the terms of the contract are extremely onerous (2 year contract anyone!?) so be very careful before you agree to anything.
Anyone can sign up for a Google Adwords campaign, it takes about 10 minutes to get up and running, and there is no monthly fee. Once you’ve chosen your search terms, you only pay for the clicks you receive, you can cap your daily and monthly budget, and you can pause or cancel a campaign at any time, without penalty.
And if you need any help with getting started, drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do.

Having developed a simple website with a friend I am now totally confused, feel out of my depth and a bit worried in terms of marketing it, getting it on search engines
