WordPress kondigde vandaag dat 2.7 is out of public beta and now the official stable version of WordPress. U kunt download hier. I’ve been playing around with the beta version of WordPress for a couple of months now, en als je hebt zag een van mijn tutorial WP Screencasts, je had een sneak peek op 2.7 admin interface. Enkele van de belangrijkste voordelen zijn:
A better layout, with majority of actions being just 1 click away
Drag and drop ajax interface for easy customisation of admin pages
Ability to hide elements of admin pages you don’t want to see
An automatic upgrade feature meaning no more requirement to download and manually install updates if you’re hosting yourself
The ability to search for and install plugins directly within the admin interface, meaning fewer trips to WordPress.org and less FTP’ing
It’s interesting to note that they’ve not implemented this feature with Themes as well, which I would imagine would be an obvious feature to add alongside the plugins integration. Daarnaast, they’ve not improved the out-of-the-box page order implementation, which is a long-promised improvement yet to materialise, requiring users to install the page order plugin to achieve this fairly basic CMS feature.
Overall though, a vast improvement, and one which will speed up the process of publishing on the WordPress platform, and re-inforces WP’s position as the king of Open Source publishing platforms.
