Just a quicky post of a useful tool I’ve been using which I forgot to mention in previous posts about search engine optimisation for your gite. If you have an idea of what search terms you’d LIKE to be found for, but no idea of how you actually rank for those terms, visit this web site:
Type in your URL, and up to 5 search keywords, and it will run a report for you against the 3 main search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN) showing you what position your site ranks for each search term. Nifty little tool.
And if you’re into trends, I spotted this yesterday whilst searching around and thought it was quite interesting: http://www.urltrends.com/
It’s another free tool which allows you to see how your key factors in your search ranking are changing over time, including how many pages are in the search engines’ index, how many sites link to yours, etc etc. I’ve had a bit of a play around, and whilst it’s got lots of lovely graphs, I found it to be quite buggy and doesn’t really do much I can’t do elsewhere with the right tools and whilst the information is interesting, I don’t find it particularly practical in thinking about future optimisation strategies.
