How to update your old version of WordPress for your gite

Someone in a forum mentioned they’d like to know how to upgrade WordPress, and it just so happens I’m due an upgrade, so here’s a screencast of the process

It’s always worth keeping up to date with the latest versions of WordPress, they regularly fix security holes and some of the updates are critical. If you’re running WordPress, you should check in with WordPress.org regularly to ensure you’re not missing any updates, although there’s usually an alert within the admin area to inform you that it’s time to upgrade.

    GG –

    Thanks for that

if I have made changes to my sidebar etc (as I have – see http://www.windermerelodge/wp) would the process you outline here overwrite them?

If so is it simply a question of backing up the theme files that have been modified like the heading image etc and then recopying them back again?

    Best wishes

    Hi John,

using the process described in this video (ie not copying over the wp content themes or plugins folders), you will not overwrite your sidebar settings (widgets) or your theme.
